Leadership of Opoku Ware School has announced the death of one of their old students, Hon. John Ampontuah Kumah Esq., who was also the Member of Parliament for the Ejisu Constituency and a Deputy Minister of Finance. The school posted on their official Facebook page.
The post reads:
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of one of our beloved former student, KAT. Dr. JOHN AMPONTUAH KUMAH Esq. (AV 241).
•SCHOOL PREFECT 1996/1997
•MP FOR EJISU/ DEP. MINISTER OF FINANCE
A cherished member of the Opoku Ware School fraternity, has left us.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Rest In Peace KATAKYIE"

The Deputy Minister has been sick since November 2023, and had been seeking medical treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre and Germany.
He was in his Constituency, Ejisu) to attend the Independence Day Celebrations when his sickness became worst. He died at Suhum on his way to Accra in an ambulance for onward travelling to Germany to continue his medical treatment.
